Greetings and Hello, I've been trying to identify the date of an early PRS CE 24 model serial number 173172. I've done my research and have come up with the fact that it is either a 1991 or 1992. I've used the PRS site and another, and have found conflicting data. If anyone knows the PRS dating system very well I could really use a hand finding out exactly when this guitar was built. The original owner agrees as well that we are in the right ball park (91 or 92). Another question I'd like to to know about early PRS guitars is, does anyone know when they switched over from Brazilian Rosewood to Indian Rosewood fretboards? I'm not totally sure when but I read it was somewhere in 1991.

The next numeral in the SN, 7, then indicates CE - we're right on there. Then we are left with '3172.' When you match up the 3172 to the CE Models Approximate Serial Numbers list on PRSguitars.com, it has the guitar listed as being built in 1990 - this to me is where they threw us the curveball. In 1990 the Serial numbers for CE Models were 1831-3200.
